This is part 2 of the Parking Ticket saga.
Remember the parking ticket that M receieved for parking on the street because he couldn't get in the driveway because the snow had to be shovelled? And remember that his beautiful and intelligent wife TOLD him he was going to get a ticket? And remember when he was shocked and appauled that he got a ticket and made a HUGE deal that he was going to fight it, that he was allowed to park on that part of the road because it was designated for parking? And remember me saying that I was going to end up paying for it because he doesn't have time to fight it? (If you didn't know the story.. that's the jist of it).
I've been harrassing him since that DAY to figure out when he had time to head downtown to make his court appointment -- or to just let me pay for the damn thing.
Fast forward to today, March 29th.
Michael: "Babe... I guess if you want to pay the parking ticket.. I'll admit you were right... and it has to be paid by today."
Jen: smiles. "Uh huh. Just give me the ticket and I'll pay it online."
Michael: "I will before I leave for work."
*Michael continues getting ready for work.
*Michael leaves for work.
*Michael exchanges something at Old Navy and then calls wife to tell her he's refrained from purchasing more things. Wife asks husband to get mail on the way home.
*Michael enters house with no mail in hand.
Jen: "No mail?"
Michael: F@&%.
Michael goes and gets mail.
A little while goes by.. Wife still doesn't have ticket to pay. After putting the babies to bed she tracks down husband in office and asks for ticket. Gets upstairs to pay it, and really looks at ticket. Goes back down to office.
Jen: "Okay. Now I'm pissed."
Michael: "What'd I do now?"
Jen: "Please look at the date on the ticket."
Michael: "March 12"
Jen: "Please read the instructions on the ticket."
Michael: "Pay within 15 calendar days.."
Jen: "AND?!"
Michael: "Umm.. its late?"
Jen: "AND according to the back of the ticket I can't pay online -- so it's going to be even later if I have to mail the payment. Who knows how much it's going to go up for being late."
Michael: "Uhh...ohhh... Ummm.. I"ll call them."
*Husband calls city parking.. whatever-they're-called. Luckily he gets a really nice lady to talk to, who tells him you CAN pay tickets online now, and she instructs him how to do so. She also happens to ask for the infraction number to find out the balance.
Wonderful parking tele-operator we'll call her.
Tele-operator: "Is this your car?"
Michael: "Yes."
Tele-operator: "It's registered with Sarnia plates."
Michael: ".... yes" -(apparently we have not changed our address yet).
Tele-operator: "You know what I'm going to do for you sir. Since this is your first parking infraction in London, and the licence plate is registered as living in Sarnia, we're going to cancel this ticket."
She then goes on to explain to Michael where and how he can park in the city of London for a solid 2 minutes.
Michael hangs up the phone and screams "YESSS. I took care of the ticket honey. NOW PUT THAT ON THE BLOG!"
So.. the end of the story goes..
We didn't end up paying for the ticket, and while I was right about EVERYTHING -- he also didn't end up costing us any money. Really he should be thanking the very nice tele-operator... who saved his ass.
That being said -- we REALLY need to get our plates switched to our London address. And thankfully, M heard first hand that regardless or not of parking designations on the street -- you cannot park on the side of a London street between 3 and 5 am.
And we're both left feeling quite victorious now.

Choices
Remember months ago when I said I needed a job? That I felt unfulfilled being a stay-at-home mom? Well...here's the thing. I think I've changed my mind.
This past weekend I went into the store that I was certain I had secured atleast a job interview (I had spoken with the Manager months ago and he assured me that he wanted to give me a job, as soon as there was a position). The manager didn't even LOOK at me while I was shopping (usually we engaged in a quite lengthy conversation), and I took this to mean one of three things. There was no position in the near-future, and he had gotten ahead of himself and felt bad. He didn't want to hire me and was avoiding me. Or the after-gym with child in tow 'look' didn't lend itself well to me, and he didn't even recognize me. I hoped for the latter. I got home and expressed my frustration to my husband. I really wanted to work there, and have something that is 'my own'.
Fast forward to 7pm tonight. The manager called while my husband was on the phone and left a message asking me to come in for an interview, that there was a part time position available. I quickly called back to arrange a time and discuss a few of the details. Turns out that the position would be pretty much weekends only (2 shifts) with no weekday shifts.
Hmmph.
This puts me in quite the predicament. I don't want to give up EVERY weekend. I assumed that like MOST part time sales positions it would be a combination of weekday/weeknight/weekend shifts and that two days a week would mean an assortment of scheduled shifts.
Michael and I discussed all of the 'things' we have going on through to the end of June.. and I'm not sure we could really accommodate such a schedule. For example..
Saturday April 2 - Imagination movers with K and M from 11 - 12/1pm. No shift.
Sunday April 3 - Gymnastics in the AM - so only an afternoon shift.
Saturday April 9/10 - Michael's birthday celebration here in London. Family staying over + gymnastics. No shift.
Saturday April 16 - Overnight at Great Wolf .. plus then M is away for a week so NO shifts at all.
April 23, 24, 25 - Easter weekend. Not sure what are our plans are.. but.. I would like to have most of the weekend free...
Sunday May 1 - Gymnastics and then a birthday party for a friend.
So that means .. I have space for 2 or 3 weekend shifts out of 5 weeks.
And that's just April. It doesn't get better until July -- and by then.. do I want to work every weekend in the summer? We plan on spending atleast a week (maybe 2) at the trailer in Grand Bend, plus spending a few days in Toronto. On top of all of that, Michael and I have committed to working out 4 nights/days a week, and doing family oriented activities (ie. taking the babies swimming on Friday nights).
I think part of me wanted a job to help out financially -- I often feel as though I'm not contributing in the same way that M is.. he works so very hard to provide for his family. I change diapers, feed babies, and do laundry. It doesn't seem equivalent -- especially since Michael also does those things on top of his job (did I mention I have the best husband ever?). We're not in the same position we were last fall .. and we don't need me to bring in an income to pay the basic bills (extra money is always great though!)..
As of now, I'm completely confused about what I'm going to do. Part of me is saying "go to the interview and see what you can make of it!" and the other part of me is saying "there is no way you can make another thing work in this crazy schedule that includes 1 car and 2 small babies."
Why are decisions like this so difficult?
On a random, I don't want to talk about this anymore, note.

Charlotte found her tongue today!
18 Months
Kingston had his 18 month wellness visit today. It was very informative and we covered a lot of ground. I felt like I was there for a LONG time asking questions.. but my wonderful paediatrician answered all of my ridiculous questions.
Kingston weighs 29lbs (around 75th percentile)
and is 34.5" tall (around 98th percentile).
According to the paediatrician, when Kingston turns 2 we can guestimate his adult height (about double what he is at 2yrs), but she forcasts that he will be very tall (over 6ft).
We also went through the Nippising together and I expressed my concerns about his speech. She talked with Kingston, and he both mimicked a lot of what she was doing, as well as repeated the words he knows, and answered questions ("Where is mommy?" -- points to momma). Overall she's quite happy with his development and believes his language should start picking up any day now. I have noticed that over the last few days he's been trying to communicate more, and says 'this' and 'that' to get us to label things.
Our doctor prescribed a cream for his mild eczema .. and we learned that he has a mild sensitivity to tomatoes (his arms get red and itchy when he eats pasta). But as long as it stays localized to his arms.. we aren't concerned.
We also discovered he once again has redness in his ears, and a lot of fluid. He is really congested with a runny nose, and sore throat/cough (again!) so we're not sure if he needs antibiotics or we just need to ride out the cold. For now he's not on anything, but if he gets cranky/fever this week I'm supposed to go back. My lucky boy didn't get his needles today because of this -- and I can honestly say I'm a little relieved. I was not looking forward to the needles today .. I think it's because he's old enough to give me the 'momma why are you doing this to me?' look.. he's not a baby anymore.. he's a little boy and it's like I'm hurting him and he doesn't understand why. And I'm sure he won't forget 3 minutes later like he used to. On that note he doesn't have to get them until April 14th -- when BOTH babies get their needles (Charlotte will get her 6 month needles -- hard to believe I know).

'Dirty Bit'
I know a lot of people hate this song, however, I love it. Or I did. Kingston is OBSESSED with it, and wants us to turn 'dirty bit' on everytime he has my phone. He then rocks out. Over and over and over again.... (I've even tried playing another dance song and he whines and thrusts the phone back at me until I change it back).
Oh and he also LOVES to watch me video record/take pictures of Charlotte -- because he can watch on the screen... you'll see him realize about half way through and come for a peek! Hence why he only dances for a couple seconds in the beginning -- normally it's a full on dance party!
Enjoy!

Snow Removal
This blog was going to be about Kingston shovelling the snow this morning -- but it's about to morph into a much longer, kind of hilarious in a 'wifey knows best' kinda way.
Yesterday morning at around 8 am Kingston and Mommy were playing in the play room while Charlotte napped. We had a look outside the window to watch for doggys walking by and were stunned to see all the 'nooooo' (snow). So we be-lined it to the basement office to let M know since he was driving to Toronto. There wasn't a ridiculous 'shut down the city' amount of snow.. but there was a good amount. He left shortly after and arrived safely in Toronto.
I text him SEVERAL times letting him know that it was continuing to snow here in London.
I called him to let him know that I'd seen 3 snow plows go down our road, and there was a huge snow bank of snow in front of our house. I reminded him that with the two babies I can't get out to shovel so he would have to do it when he got home. He replied with a 'yeah yeah'.
I called him to tell him the funny story of watching the H3 across the road get stuck in their driveway.
All the while M replied "I'm not concerned, it's no big deal'. I reiterated that I was concerned about him getting into the driveway/garage but he refused to listen to me.
When he walked in the front door, the first words out of his mouth were something like, "OH MY GOD that's a lot of HEAVY, WET snow!!" Therefore he parked across the street in front of our neighbours house (there is a parking section-thing). Our neighbour is compulsive about shovelling and even then there was quite a bit of snow to park in. Regardless, I reminded him that you can't park on the street in the winter and that he was going to get a ticket. He laughed at me, said that he was allowed to park there, and proceeded to ignore my concerns. M decided we would deal with it in the morning since he thought the snow might actually do something to do the undercarriage of the truck if we tried to barrel our way in the driveway. Plus it was 8pm at night.
Around 9 this morning, Kingston and daddy head out to do some shovelling. First thing M notices -- parking ticket on the truck for $30 for parking on the street!!! He came in the house whining and complaining, and I reminded him that I TOLD him there was a lot of snow, I TOLD him that he wouldn't get in the driveway, and I TOLD him that he couldn't park on the street in the winter.
He apologized and told me he was going to fight it (which we won't be because he is FAR too busy right now). So I will pay the stupid ticket, forever knowing that I was right. Many times today actually.
Moral of the story: LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE. She is a pretty smart gal.
Anyways, the actual thing I wanted to blog about was Kingston 'supervising' the snow removal.

It wasn't until after K turned around... and daddy walked away for a second that I noticed what he was actually doing.
Eating snow from the driveway. YUCK. I know all kids do it, and I know that at one point I did it too.. but as an adult.. all I can think about is how gross this is. Bleh.
Apparently my son thinks it's pretty delicious.

Slacking..
We have been really REALLY busy lately, which is why blog posts are few and far between.
What's been keeping me so busy? This.
What's been keeping me so busy? This.
Kingston's idea of helping...
Oh and the folding and putting away of this laundry, dishes, tidying, dusting, grocerys & cooking, etc. You know -- all the typical stuff moms do on a daily basis. What's been making it difficult is my lack of motivation seeing as our sleep is not quite the same as it used to be. Kingston got two molars in over the last couple of weeks, and Charlotte is being a diva going through a growth spurt. I can't remember the last full nights sleep we got. And not because they get up and want to party all night.. they just cry or whine and then drift back to sleep.. but not before waking the other one. Sigh. Normalcy will return.. just takes some patience.
Michael is working so hard right now and has been spending mucho time in the office. Therefore, I do what I can but our house is a disaster. If your on my FB you know I've gone to bed around 7pm every night this week. Yep I'm lame, but atleast I'm sane.
I always think its funny when people say 'laundry/dishes can wait' enjoy your kids -- while I don't begrudge those who say it... it totally irks me. If it doesn't get done right away -- I'm thinking about it. So I may physically be playing on the floor with Kingston, but I'm secretly thinking, 'damn, I really need to get that laundry put away, or pull dinner out of the freezer...' Michael told me 'not to worry about it' a lot right after Charlotte was born.. but if I don't worry about it, who will? I always ask if little faeries or elves will come do my chores for me, if I don't do them? How long can you REALLY let the laundry go before you run out of undies? By pushing those chores back I'm really just creating more work for myself. Granted, I understand if its something like cleaning the bathtub or organizing a cupboard... but without dishes there are no meals. With crumbs/last nights dinner on the floor -- there is a hungry toddler waiting to eat it up! Without groceries there are no diapers/food/toiletries/supplies/etc. Without clean laundry there is no.. anything? You get my point.
So with that -- I'm off to fold the 7 loads of laundry that are sprawled around my bedroom floor before the diva herself wakes in about a half hour. Kingston will be up next a half hour after that. And then I'm sure he'll 'help' me fold whatever is still laying around. Or of course 'refold' whatever I haven't managed to put away before he joins me.

Yesssssssss!!
M: "Kingston do you want to float on the flutter board?"
K: "Yeeeeeeeessssssssssssss"
M: "Do you want to go down the slide?"
K: "Yeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss"
M: "Do you want to blow bubbles?"
K: "YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"
I think it's safe to say that swimming lessons were a hit.
We got to the Aquatic Center early.. and we will NEVER do that again. I thought Kingston was going to burst from excitement and joy, we couldn't keep him away from the side of the pool. He was THAT kid - you know, the one who's screaming because they want to go in! When it was finally his turn he was more than happy to join daddy in the very cold pool, while other children cried and scrambled to get out. The "Duck" class sang lots of songs, played games, and raced across the pool. I love that Kingston is tall enough to touch the bottom of the pool -- he definately kept daddy on his feet!
When Kingston got out of the water (and of course, he was the last one out) his lips were blue and he couldn't stop shivering. The water at the Aquatic Center is NOT warm.. but while the adults were all more than ready to get out of the frigid water -- the toddlers wanted to stay a while longer! We heard many little ones crying to go back in.

(I know K looks scared in that second picture.. but he was actually laughing).
I came to the conclusion today after playgroup and swimming lessons that my child is pretty darn amazing. Granted some might call him a little obnoxious, but with two fairly outgoing parents, what do you really expect?
He's the child that gets *so* excited that he hits another child in the face while trying to hug and kiss them.
He's the child that jumps up in the middle of a song/story to dance and talk along.
He's the child that enjoys activities so much that he can't help but scream, shout, jump, and (if applicable) splash!
He's the child that loves to be the center of attention -- regardless who the audience is.
He's the child that leads other children into doing things they probably shouldnt do.
Kingston is willful, fearless, outgoing, loving, passionate and energetic.... And I'm okay with all of that!

FOOD!
If Charlotte could talk -- I'm sure that's what she would have said when she saw me mix the cereal & bananas together. FOOD!
We've had some recent issues regarding sleep (and I know dear readers, that you know I can't stand for that!!). So we've been adjusting our nap schedule/bedtime accordingly but it would appear that the Gidge is just in desperate need of substanence.
Enter rice cereal. Now to be honest, I didn't even know if we were going to give her cereal or wait until closer to 6 months and move right into first foods. She's entirely formula fed now, so I know she has more than enough iron. I don't feel at 4.5 months shes ready for a ton of solids.. so a little rice cereal (mixed with banana for flavour) at dinner time is where we're at.
Since giving her a tablespoon or two of cereal and adjusting her daytime naps, we are back to our typical 7pm-7am sleep. With the exception of Bubba's night awakenings (his poor teeth).
My little baby girl doesn't feel like a little baby girl anymore!

All Things Girly
Remember my supposed attempt at making a photoboard for Charlotte's room.. my first DIY? Epic fail. I am not a DIY-er. I didn't even try to be honest. All that effort in finding the supplies, the fabric the instructions AND finding the time to do it... Not in this house.
I did however just purchase some fun wall decal stickers for Gidget's room.
I did however just purchase some fun wall decal stickers for Gidget's room.
The flowers are in chocolate brown, and the butterflies are in grey. Not sure where I'm going to put them, but they are currently being shipped. Total cost = $30. I got them online at Curly Cue Wall Graphics (click).
Next up wall frames and a mirror. Seriously.. my goal is to make her room more girly and fun by Easter-ish. Let me clarify.. more girly and less 'holy pink'. We'll see how that goes.
